Saturday morning, June 28, the Ashland Little League is hosting the District 5 end-of-season tournament for the Challenger Division. We hosted this event last summer and ended up having a wonderful time.
The league is in need of volunteers to help be sure this year's event is also a success.
Right now, we have four confirmed teams, including Ashland, Atlee, Huguenot and Tuckahoe, which includes about 60 players, and we may be adding additional teams before next Saturday. If you have never seen or been involved in a Challenger game, we encourage you all to come as it is an experience to remember.
The day's events will include a single game for each team beginning at 9 a.m. (i.e., not a true "tournament"), followed by a picnic for all participants, their families and all volunteers. The picnic will begin when all the games have been completed, which should be between 10:30 and 11:00. We need volunteers to help with the following items:
- field prep before 9 a.m.
- "buddies" to help players during the games (last year, Minor and Major players served as buddies for about 15 players, helping them in the field, at the plate and on the bases)
- food preparation and serving (we are providing hot dogs; chips; drinks and dessert to all attendees and volunteers)
- clean-up
If you have time next Saturday, please consider helping out the Ashland Little League put on a first-rate experience for the Challenger teams and their families.
If you have any questions, please let any of us know.
We hope to see you next weekend!
